Public Programs

Education & Youth Engagement

We believe jazz education is essential—not just for future musicians, but for cultivating creativity and critical thinking in young people.

Key Education Programs:

  • Live Jazz: In Real Life is an immersive exhibit that dismantles the myths around jazz icons by pairing rarely seen artifacts—handwritten set lists, love letters, union cards, first-draft lead sheets, receipts, and gig contracts—with synchronized photos, raw studio outtakes, and archival film.

Visitors can flip through digitized correspondence while the very track being discussed plays in the background, study Miles Davis’ contract for ‘Kind of Blue’ beside footage from the gig it birthed, and inspect everyday items—boarding passes, family snapshots—that reveal the human heartbeat behind the legend. Part archive, part listening room, part time machine, the exhibition lets you hear, see, and almost touch the lived reality that shaped the music we revere.

  • JazzMetroplex’s NextGen Jazz Internships: is a 16-week, hybrid internship that places aspiring jazz professionals at the center of JazzMetroplex’s booking, education, and digital-media operations. Participants shadow working jazz professionals while completing guided projects that translate theory into real-world impact
  • NextGen Jazz Fellowship: Mentorship and performance opportunities for high school and college-age students
  • JazzMetroplex Masterclasses: Free or low-cost workshops led by world-class jazz artists and jazz industry professionals. Those programs are delivered in partnership with schools, community centers, and arts organizations to ensure wide access and long-term impact.
